The staff of the Lumimats group comprises researchers and professors holding advanced skills in molecular spectroscopy, computational chemistry and materials chemistry.

The staff of the LUMIMATS group comprises researchers and professors holding advanced skills in molecular spectroscopy, computational chemistry and materials chemistry. The team has extensive expertise in photochemical and photophysical study of homo/heterogeneous photonic systems and the synthesis, functionalization and characterization of photoactive hybrid materials. Our laboratory is equipped with high-resolution photophysical techniques, which allow measuring the absorption and emission signatures of these photoactive systems in diverse states (liquid, solid, films) with time resolution (from picoseconds to milliseconds) across the entire ultraviolet, visible and near-infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. We apply such dual and complementary experimentaltheoretical knowledge and resources in the design, synthesis, characterization and testing of multifunctional dyes and materials with tailored photophysical properties, by means of dye and materials chemistry, for light-driven applications.

Our team actively collaborates with multidisciplinary research groups specialized in complementary fields, such as organic and inorganic chemistry for the synthesis of the dye molecules and solid hosts respectively. Our collaborations extend to physics for laser conducting laser measurements, circularly polarized luminescence studies, and non-linear optics experiments, as well as to the field of biology to perform bioimaging analysis and cyto- and photo-toxicity assays. These interdisciplinary partnerships provide valuable feedback, enabling us to continually improve and redesign the next generation of modern dyes and materials with advanced photonic properties tailored for a wide range of optical and bioapplications.

Our laboratory is equipped with high-resolution photophysical techniques.
