Graduated in Chemical Sciences in June 2001 (extraordinary award) and PhD in Sciences December 2005 (extraordinary award) from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). First, hired as a postdoctoral researcher (2008-2011) and later as a Ramón y Cajal Researcher (2012-2017) at the UPV/EHU. Currently, permanent researcher at Physical Chemistry Department at the UPV/EHU (since 2018).
Stays: Predoctoral at National Institute of Materials Science (NIMS, Tsukuba, Japan) for 3 months (2004); postdoctoral at KULeuven (Belgium) for two years (2006-2008) at Prof. Johan Hofkens’ laboratory and invited researcher at ERATO Kitagawa integrated pores at Japan Science and Technology Agency (Kyoto, Japan) for 2 months (2010).
Research focused on the design, development and characterization of photoactive hybrid materials that include zeolitic systems and functionalized nanoparticles (inorganic or carbon-based), as well as new organic chromophores for photonic, (bio)catalysis and biomedical applications. All these lines in close and productive collaboration with national and international groups.
Regular reviewer of projects funded by AEI (Spain), FWO (Flanders), FONCyT (Argentina) and NCN (Poland) and international journals in the area of Physical Chemistry, Materials Science and Chemistry Multidisciplinary; Committee member of doctoral thesis (national and international), Euskampus Fundazioa, and since 2023 secretary of GRUFO (Specialized Group of Photochemistry) from RSEQ.
Teaching spectroscopic characterization techniques at Chemistry degree (UPV/EHU) and at the interuniversity Master’s Degree (UPV/EHU-UC). Supervision of several doctoral, final master and bachelor theses.
Diffusion activities: publications, research news (The conversation, Anales de Química, Campusa, Edinburgh Instruments highlight notes, Photonics Spectra, EuroPhotonics, Daily Science, Alpha Galileo…), interviews ( Euskadi Irratia- EiTB) and workshops and talks to young and general public (Chemistry in Action, Faculty open days, International Day of Women and Girls in Science, European researchers’ night, STEAM
