PhD in Sciences in October 2004 (Extraordinary Award) from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). First, hired as assistant professor (Profesor Ayudante, 2004-2006) in Science and Technology Faculty in Leioa (Biscay), and later as Lecturer (Profesor Interino 2006-2011) in Pharmacy Faculty in Vitoria (Alava). Currently, permanent Assistant Professor at (Professor Agregado from 2011) at Physical Chemistry Department at the UPV/EHU.
Stays: Postdoctoral stay at Bern University for 6 months (2006) in the laboratory headed by Prof. Gion Calzaferri.
Research focused on the design and computationally assisted photophysical and electrochemical characterization of photoactive and multifunctional organic chromophores for photonic (lasers and LEDs) and biomedical (diagnosis and therapy) applications, in the framework of multidisciplinary collaborations with national and international groups. Among the World ́s Top 2% Scientists in the Stanford Ranking in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Regular reviewer of projects funded by AEI (Spain), FWO (Flanders), FONACyT (Chile), FONCYT (Argentina) and SNF (Switzerland) and international journals in the area of Physical Chemistry, Materials Science and Chemistry Multidisciplinary; Committee member of doctoral thesis (national and international); Member of the editorial board of scientific journals (MDPI).
Teaching general chemistry and physical chemistry at Chemistry degree (UPV/EHU) and materials chemistry in the interuniversity Master’s Degree (UPV/EHU-UC). Supervision of several doctoral theses, final master thesis and bachelor thesis.
Diffusion activities: publications in basque language (EKAIA, Elhuyar, and IkerGazte), research news (Euskampus, ABC, elDiario.es, Nanowerk, Interempresas, EuroPhotonics, Daily Science…) and outreach activities for the society (Chemistry in Action, Science Week…).
